- 1 medium head green cabbage
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 cup uncooked white rice
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 2 cups tomato sauce
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
Instructions
- 1. Bring a large pot of salted water to boil. Blanch the whole head of cabbage for 2-3 minutes until leaves are pliable. Remove and cool slightly before peeling off individual leaves.
- 2. In a bowl, mix ground beef, uncooked rice, chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, and pepper until well combined.
- 3. Place about two tablespoons of filling on each cabbage leaf near the stem end. Roll tightly from stem to tip and tuck in the sides.
- 4. Mix tomato sauce with oregano and basil in a separate bowl. Spread some sauce at the bottom of a baking dish.
- 5. Arrange cabbage rolls seam-side down in the dish and cover with remaining sauce. Cover with foil and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 45-50 minutes.
