Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 medium head green cabbage
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 cup uncooked white rice
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil

Instructions

  1. 1. Bring a large pot of salted water to boil. Blanch the whole head of cabbage for 2-3 minutes until leaves are pliable. Remove and cool slightly before peeling off individual leaves.
  2. 2. In a bowl, mix ground beef, uncooked rice, chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  3. 3. Place about two tablespoons of filling on each cabbage leaf near the stem end. Roll tightly from stem to tip and tuck in the sides.
  4. 4. Mix tomato sauce with oregano and basil in a separate bowl. Spread some sauce at the bottom of a baking dish.
  5. 5. Arrange cabbage rolls seam-side down in the dish and cover with remaining sauce. Cover with foil and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 45-50 minutes.
